PMUT: Sparking a Breakthrough in Ultrasound Application

We know from history that new applications often need advances in technology to become viable. Today, predictive models for industrial, medical and consumer contexts rely on continuous streams of status data from many points and sources for sufficient accuracy, and Piezoelectric Micromachined Ultrasonic Transducers (PMUTs) integrated with electronics in tiny modules may well be the solution to these needs.

Ultrasound applications across numerous fields can benefit from Piezo MEMS actuators, with next generation PMUT promising an exciting new technology that merges ultrasound and thin-film piezo layers. This project is part of the Piezo MEMS roadmap in the “Lab-in-Fab” facility, a brand new Singapore-based MEMS R&D center. This center is jointly operated by ST, IME and ULVAC and open for collaboration with industrial or academic partners.
