How MEMS-based CO2 Sensors Will Support The New Normal of Air Quality Monitoring and Contribute to Making Our Lives Easier, Safer and Greener

Improved building insulation to increase energy efficiency is not always good for human health. Poor ventilation can result in a build-up of carbon dioxide (CO2) and even moderate levels of CO2 have a negative impact on health and productivity. With the recent pandemic, awareness of indoor air quality is rising, making accurate, affordable monitoring solutions for indoor air quality more important than ever. If we can reliably measure the CO2 level in an indoor space, we can actively manage the risk of virus transmission. Today’s established CO2 sensors limit a widespread adoption for CO2 monitoring due to size, performance and cost constraints. Recent innovations in MEMS based CO2 sensors leveraging photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) technology overcome these limitations and will set the base for an area wide adoption to measure what matters, making lives easier, safer and greener.
